The USFIT Program is currently not
being offered.
The
U.S.F.I.T. training program stands for
United States Fitness Instructor Training.
Our training has been designed in the interest of the novice
instructor who is looking for the fundamental skills they will need to get
started as a group fitness instructor.
Our program is a uniquely different experience that provides
hands-on, week- by- week instruction from highly skilled
Master
Instructor Trainers.
U.S.F.I.T.
is 5 consecutive weekends comprised of 28 hours of theoretical and
practical training.
Our
number one goal with this program is to provide a professional learning
environment that emphasizes the practical skills needed by a new
instructor, but also allows them to grasp the basic concepts of exercise
science, nutrition, biomechanics, safety and liability, motor learning,
and many other arenas related to group fitness.
It has been our experience that most other formal certification
programs do not provide enough practical based instruction to new leaders,
and oftentimes place more of an emphasis on theoretical knowledge, leaving
the instructor short on a full series of necessary skills..
While
we believe theoretical knowledge is essential to being and excellent group
fitness instructor, we strongly feel it is equally important to understand
how to teach these concepts to a group setting.
Without practical skill emphasis it is oftentimes impossible for
exercise concepts to be taught within a new instructor’s class.
FIT Launch, Inc. and the
U.S.F.I.T. training team believe it is through continuing education
and formal education that further theoretical knowledge is enhanced and
cultured. We strive to keep
the program’s information complete, current (using ACSM exercise
guidelines), accurate, and within a new instructor’s scope of practice.
U.S.F.I.T. provides an opportunity for growth to
occur with each week of the training, and all participants have marked
improvement by the time the final week of testing approaches.
The first 4 weeks are 5 ˝ -6
hours of training in both theoretical and practical skills, while the final
week is composed of a 110 point written exam and 25 minute practical
demonstration of skills. During
the first 4 weeks, participants are assigned practical homework skills,
which they present to the group with each successive week.
Master Instructor Trainers provide weekly feedback to each
participant on their skills and encourage them in the areas they are weak.
In
addition,
U.S.F.I.T. places much emphasis on form,
technique, and biomechanical movements within our practical sections.
Our certification graduates understand how to choose a proper
strength exercises, and are continually assessed on their form and
technique during the 5- week protocol. Our certified instructors are by far the most prepared to
teach once they graduate the program!
HISTORY
FIT Launch, Inc. designed the first edition of
U.S.F.I.T. in June of 1996. During this time it was being taught within local YMCA’s as
a 20-week training design and was simply called “Group Exercise
Instructor Training.” In
the spring of 1998, FIT Launch taught a second, much shorter, version of
the group fitness instructor training program within local Puget Sound
area gyms, and venues. It was
during this time that the manual, and training design began to take on a
different look and became a more user-friendly program.
During 1998, FIT Launch, Inc. Owner/Director Amy Bomar began her
quest to include more criteria and professional expertise within the
training design. It was
during this year that FIT Launch created their fitness faculty, board of
directors, and
Master Instructor Trainers who assisted in the
making of the manual and provided the company with the added expertise and
credibility. During June of
2000 the program officially was named
U.S.F.I.T. in order to reflect
the goals of FIT Launch, Inc. and its mission to provide quality education
to novice and professional instructors throughout the country.
It is our goal to spread the word about the importance of practical
training within the fitness industry, and to make
U.S.F.I.T. a credible, worthwhile, and accepted training program.
